Undergraduate Research

Interests: Undergraduate research topics in fractals, differential equations, and numerical analysis.

Previous Undergraduate Research Topics

  • Fractal Interpolation - Shywanda Moore, Honors College (Spring 1999).
    Obtain thesis as pdf file.
  • Assessing Random Iteration -Rochelle Jenkins, Department of Mathematics (Fall 2001).
    Obtain thesis as pdf file.

How do I go about it, and what am I trying to achieve?

If you are interested in formulating a topic for undergraduate research, please contact me directly. The topics should involve numerical or computational investigations utilizing the computer. Some familiarity with unix, C, C++, fortran, or maple is assumed, however expertise is not required. The purpose of the project is to:

  • Construct a topic which will enhance the student's understanding of the research process;

  • Improve the student's understanding of the research topic, i.e., to develop the ability to work with a topic in depth; and,

  • To improve the student's technical skills in computational tools utilization.
Yes, it is extra work.
